Service Project, Painting Policlinica in Costa Azul

Elder Barrington one of our Zone Leaders came to La Paloma during a one day exchange with Elder Bravo. He was just in time to help with our service project. He is mixing the paint. The paint here is very different here. It consists of a bag of powder that you mix with water. It is very liquidy and is very difficult to put on the wall and almost impossible to get to stick to an overhead surface. It is like painting with skim milk. You put on one coat and let it dry and you can see that the surface color changed ever so slightly and then you put on another coat and another and another........ and then you have to clean up the ground because it runs down the walls and onto the ground or concrete and makes a mess. You just get it wet and scrub it with water and a broom and it dissolves and runs away.

We had to paint the walls first with bleach to kill the mold!

Visiting some of the members!

We were able to go out 2 weeks ago and visit some of the members of the branch in Barrio Parque with Ruben. Half of our members live in this area, which is a long distance from our building. We figured we could have Ruben do the talking and he could translate for us. He is getting pretty good at understanding us. He is very patient and has been so helpful to us. Since he is the Elders Quorum Pres. this was also a good chance for him to visit with some of the members in their homes. He has a difficult time getting around in his wheel chair. So with Dan helped and pushed him all around. This is Lordus that was baptized in April. She is doing great!
This is Pedro. He is 82 years old and has been a member almost 2 years now. He is just the sweetest ol' guy. He gets so excited about the simplest little things. He was so touched by our visit. He has saved all the letters, cards and photos that he has received since he has been baptized in a plastic bag. Every time someone visits with him he gets them out and shows it to them. So Dan go the idea to get a notebook and plastic sheet covers and put all his stuff in it so it would be protected. So we surprised him with that. He was so happy! He just loves it, he even brings it to church with him. We had such a good time that day. Ruben loved it also.
