Dan and Janice, We love reading about what you are doing. We are trying to decide what to do for thanksgiving this year. We miss you.

ReplyDeleteJust wanted to drop a quick note to say “Hi.” But perhaps that should be “Hola.” We miss Janice in Sister Taggart’s early morning institute class. There were only 5 in the class today. Of course, we also miss you in choir (even though Dan might not miss usJ).
ReplyDeleteLast Sunday someone asked me to recommend a good electrician, and the only name I could think of was Dan. When I mentioned his name, I just got a frown back, and a “thanks a lotL; he’s a little far away, and a bit too busy right now.”
Paul finally got relief from having to go to early Sunday morning meetings when they released him as ward clerk and called him to be a ward missionary a few months ago. But it was not to last---he’s been called as the Stake Clerk and now has 6:30 a.m. Sunday meetings for the foreseeable future. I guess the two of you have early morning meetings every day as missionaries!
We’re trying to prepare for the possible event of the Kent-Auburn-Renton valley flooding in case of heavy rains this year. You probably have heard that the earth around the Howard Hanson Dam (same design as the Teton Dam) is leaking and has some sink holes. They are going to try to repair things, but they can’t let the reservoir get too full for fear of a breach. Boeing is busy trying to move things out of the Kent Data Center. The Church storehouse grain silos have been emptied. I felt fairly secure up here on the hill, but there is talk of the possibility of a chain reaction of sewer back up and possibility of power outages and drinking water contamination in the worst case scenario. But what’s new? Haven’t the prophets been teaching personal preparedness for a very long time? It’s a good “wake-up call” to re-evaluate how prepared we really are. I think it’s odd how during the driest summer I’ve seen in the 22 years we’ve lived here that they didn’t drain the reservoir and really put forth a concerted effort to repair it before the rainy season----but what do I know? How lucky we are that we live in a place where we only occasionally have to worry about being flooded. Where our son Eric served in El Salvador, the streets became rivers frequently.
We’re looking forward to General Conference. I hope you will have access to it where you are.
